About TRE

Understanding the TRE® Process:

TRE® (Tension, Trauma Release Exercises) was developed by Dr. David Berceli, it is a gentle and accessible method focusing on releasing stuck tension and trauma stored deep within your muscles, promoting relaxation, and restoring emotional balance by resetting your nervous system. It is a somatic technique designed to help individuals experiencing symptoms of stress, anxiety, trauma, or PTSD. This body-based practice utilises a series of exercises. Gradually a natural tremor will be evoked in the body and this is where the healing begins. No discussion of specific events, feelings, or issues is necessary if you don't want to, making TRE® accessible for people who find verbalising their experiences challenging.

Once the shaking begins, participants allow the natural vibrations to move through their bodies without attempting to control them. Most people find the sensation of shaking enjoyable, and many report experiencing physical or emotional release without feeling overwhelmed.

The shaking mechanism present in TRE® is a natural response found in all mammals and humans. It enables the body to release contracted stress patterns, reduce stress hormone levels, and restore balance, thereby promoting stability and overall well-being.

TRE® is beneficial for anyone dealing with stress, anxiety, trauma, pain, inflammation, or tightness. It can also help individuals facing challenges related to health, finances, family, housing, and addiction. People who have experienced accidents, whether vehicle or workplace-related, can find relief from the stress and trauma that often follows.

Many TRE® participants describe feeling more grounded, relaxed, and calmer after practicing the technique. Over time, some individuals have reported relief from conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, eczema, and IBS.

TRE® has also been shown to alleviate pain, migraines, headaches, and back pain, as well as help manage emotions like fear, anger, worry, and anxiety.

Every person's trauma and stress history is unique, so the number of sessions required may vary. Some individuals may need additional guidance from a practitioner, while others can learn the technique and practice independently. As TRE® becomes a familiar self-help tool, it is recommended to continue using it a few times a week to maintain good health, resilience, and reduced stress.

TRE involves a series of simple exercises designed to release deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma. Here’s how it typically works:

  1. Preparation: We start with some grounding exercises to help you feel safe and present.

  2. Exercises/Stretching: You perform a series of gentle exercises & stretches to fatigue the muscles.

  3. Activation: These stretches activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating in the body. This is a natural response that helps release tension.

  4. Tremoring: The therapeutic tremors begin, usually starting in the legs and moving up through the body. This process helps to release deep-seated stress and trauma.

  5. Integration: After the tremoring, we take time to rest and integrate the experience, allowing the body to return to a state of balance.
